3nd network meeting in Cuxhaven

Courtesy of our network partner LIPROMAR GmbH the third OMEGA-3 network meeting took place on 23th of August in Cuxhaven at their offices. With this meeting the network's 1st phase was completed and results of the network's activities were presented. Another main topic was the preparation of the 2nd phase of the network. New project ideas were discussed and strategies to strengthen the network and acquire new partners were presented. Aim of the 2nd phase of the network should be the increased initiation and implementation of research projects as well as an intensified external representation of the network. It is essential to communicate the health benefits of omega-3-fatty acids to the general public by well-directed information, cooperation with other networks and new and savoury products.

During the network meeting new members had the opportunity to present their organisation and competences, and to express their expectation of the network.

Dr. Wiacek of Leipzig University presented a very interesting introduction to „NutriCard", a competence cluster concerned with the relationship between nutrition and cardiovascular diseases. Here, omega-3-fatty acids play an important role, presenting opportunities for a possible cooperation with our network.

A presentation and guided tour of LIPROMAR by CEO Mr. von Holten, Mr. Schroeder and Dr. Wohltmann vividly depicted the process of the production and generation of homogeneous fish oils and fish proteins for a healthy diet. The high content of omega-3-fatty acids in fish oils, already available in different flavours, allows to meet the daily requirement with only one spoonful of salmon oil.

The network partners and management thank LIPROMAR for their hospitality and the successful and interesting event, enabling an extensive exchange of ideas between the attendees. The next network meeting is scheduled for February 2018. Several network partners have already offered to host the meeting.
